We know everything about you!

June 26, 2008

Regular ThinkingShift readers would be well aware of my concern about eroding civil liberties and intrusions into one of our basic freedoms – the right to privacy. Happily, I’m coming across a few people who are agreeing with me of late instead of the usual bunch who bleet “if you have nothing to hide, who cares”.

I found this YouTube video at first hilarious. It’s from the American Civil Liberties Union. A glimpse into the future when ordering a pizza. Watch it. Then think about it. How easy would it be for the scenario to happen? We leave trails of our indentiy and self all over the place: profiles on Facebook; personal information and credit card numbers on PayPal; Google can track what we search for; medical databases are stuffed full of our medical histories and so on. Once you think about all this, like me, you might not think the video is all that hilarious. You could very well be looking at your future.

Thx to Luke for sending me this gem!
